Q. Do I actually need to submit my site to Google?
A. You do not need to submit your Site Map to Google, however, if you do, then Google will be able to get information about your site that it normally would not have. This means Google will be able to more efficiently spider your site.

Q. I don't want all my files to be mapped. How do I do this?
A. After you have created your Google Site Map, you will be presented with your Site Map results. Here you have the option to remove any file or folder that you would prefer not to be included. Just right click on the item you wish to be removed and click delete.
You can also change text, names etc whilst you are here. Remember though, make your changes now, as you won't be able to do them later on.
